Once upon a time in-situ concrete was seen as the most
cost effective and maintenance free method of construction for
skateboard facilities however it imposed certain restrictions on
design and although extendable, the design is set and
unchangeable. Moveable pieces have always been popular due to
the availability of numerous and varied set ups and whilst
clearly the most versatile concept, was sadly open to vandalism
and theft unless costly fencing was installed. Enter the
Rampage Design Semi Mobile Concrete Skate Park System,
Winner 1999 Local Government and 2000 Federal Government Awards
for Design and Innovation.
In 1999 Rampage Design conceived and developed the Semi Mobile
Concrete Skate Park System. The concepts aim is to eliminate all
of the parameters usually associated with site failure in these
situations by way of a fully welded and Hot Dipped Galvanized
steel frame, fabricated from 3mm-5mm steel sections, with 65-mm
thick reinforced concrete faces to any skateable shape
imaginable. The development of the Semi Mobile modular system
has revolutionised skate park design by offering a
whole new perspective and flexibility for un-supervised public
facilities.
This systems transportability has seen over 100
Rampage Semi Mobile Facilities installed in remote regions like
Albany, Denmark, Exmouth, Three Springs, Corrigin, Karratha and
Port Hedland to name but a few!. The economic savings afforded
by back-loading has seen Rampage Design skate parks and
extensions to existing facilities appear around the Gold
Coast and Cloncurry in Queensland, Central New South Wales and
Victoria.
Due the construction methods used, there is no maintenance
required on the metal sections, whilst the steel framed concrete
skateable faces provide better longevity than in-situ concrete
facilities.
Graffiti on the structures can be easily covered
with the same inexpensive masonry sealer in which all ramps are
coated prior to installation. However it is recommended that
only unsightly or offensive graffiti be removed as it provides
both a safety and
ownership aspect
to the facility. Professional street art can be supplied on
request by Mr. Lindsay Westphal AKA AMUCK Graffiti Solutions.
